Dr. Yuman Fong is internationally recognized as a leading figure in surgical oncology – a clinician scientist who has excelled in both domains. Dr. Fong has been an innovator and mentor in the fields of cancer, robotics in surgery, imaging and display in medicine, and gene therapy. His discoveries have yielded medicines and medical devices used in treatments of inflammation, infection, and cancer. On the team that discovered tumor necrosis factor (TNF), Dr. Fong wrote some of the first papers demonstrating beneficial effects of blocking TNF – the basis for the current clinical use of TNF antibodies for inflammatory diseases.
