NOTABLE: Methodist Hospital began as a five-bed facility in a house on Hewitt Street in downtown Los Angeles in 1903. In 1915, the founders opened a new hospital with 100 beds on the site of the former residence of the mayor of Los Angeles. That hospital site was sold to Los Angeles County when the current hospital in Arcadia opened in 1957.
