Under Salke’s supervision, Amazon Studios makes pricey TV programs and movies as big bets for Prime Video to break through the media clutter. They include a reportedly $450 million “Lord of the Rings” TV series premiering later this year and epic fantasy TV series “Wheel of Time” based on the novel series that launched in November. Salke is expanding production of foreignlanguage original programs overseas, and produces and acquires movies, some getting theatrical release. Salke’s employer has loaded up on well-known movie and TV properties after buying MGM for $8.5 billion in March. A former president of NBC Entertainment, Salke joined Amazon in 2018.
