Reddy is a cardiologist who founded Prime Healthcare in 2001 with a mission to buy hospitals in financial distress and improve their financial condition so they could keep their doors open. Headquartered in Ontario, the company has grown to 45 hospitals and 300 outpatient centers in 14 states, becoming the fifth-largest for-profit health system in the nation. In Los Angeles County, Prime Healthcare operates five hospitals with a total of 1,150 licensed beds. Reddy also founded the Prime Healthcare Foundation, a public charity that owns 14 of the Prime Healthcare hospitals, as well as the not-for-profit Dr. Prem Reddy Family Foundation that has donated to charities supporting health care and education. Combined, the foundations have assets of $1.3 billion.
