Garcetti’s final term as mayor runs through the rest of the year, and he has said the city’s homelessness epidemic remains an ongoing priority. Garcetti was elected the 42nd mayor of Los Angeles in 2013. He previously represented the 13th City Council District from 2001 to 2013 and served four terms as City Council president. Garcetti has overseen initiatives including the L.A. College Promise, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and cutting business taxes to help drive economic recovery. A native Angeleno, he served as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve.
