From 2013 to 2017, Guerin served as chairwoman of the Cedars-Sinai Board of Directors. Late last year, she gave $100 million through her Shapell Guerin Family Foundation to establish a children’s health care center at the hospital, which will be named for the Guerin family. Past multimillion-dollar gifts from Guerin to Cedars-Sinai have supported the Vera and Paul Guerin Family Congenital Heart Program and two academic chairs in pulmonary medicine and pediatric neurosurgery. Also known for producing theatrical plays, Guerin became a billionaire when her late father’s homebuilding company Shapell Industries sold for $1.6 billion in 2013.
