Riley and Co-chief Executive Tom Kelleher started B. Riley as a boutique research and stock picking firm serving the Southern California market in 1997. They have since expanded the firm into a diversified platform with more than 2,000 affiliated employees offering investment banking, financial consulting and wealth management. In a statement to investors in late April, Riley said the company’s capital management business and direct lending activity continued their strong performances into 2021 despite declines in the underwriting market. He said the company expected to benefit from its recent acquisition of FocalPoint Partners.
