Friedman co-founded Canyon in 1990. Before that, he was director of capital markets for high-yield and private placements at Drexel Burnham Lambert Group Inc. Friedman previously worked at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in New York in mergers and acquisitions. Canyon started off this year working in a joint venture to launch the development of a Utah multifamily community worth around $113 million and announcing that it provided a $47.4 million senior loan to an affiliate of BPM Real Estate Group. The loan was provided for the recapitalization of an upscale hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon.
